A Town Named Doom.

Twas a quaint little town nestled deep between two hills
and it's citizens were purely born and bred,
Sprung from the dust, it was a peaceful place to live
and it's folk were gentle people it was said,
Among the population was a veteran named Old Roy,
a homeless drunk that shambled round all day,
All the townsfolk knew him as the butt of many jokes,
and when he spoke, "You're doomed!" was all he'd say!
The town priest was so proud when a brand new church was built,
he'd often stand and gaze at it with pride,
His sermons were so popular and the church was always full
with the townsfolk every Sunday crammed inside,
One day the priest was stood outside when Old Roy ambled by,
eyeing the priest, "You're doomed!" was all he said,
Twas only minutes later that the townsfolk heard a crash
as the spire fell and crushed the preacher dead!
On the outskirts of the town was where the sawmill used to stand,
the buzzing of it's machines was heard all day,
It was a thriving business and employed a lot of men
until that tragic accident one day,
When the men arrived that day Old Roy was by the gates,
"You're doomed," he said aloud as they walked by,
No one knew exactly how the mill burned to the ground
but the flames all seemed to reach up to the sky,
All towns have a paper and this town produced The Globe,
it's office set back slightly from the street,
The owner, Mr Sugden, liked to print a lot of pictures
of the children, which I guess was rather sweet,
One day while working at the press, Old Roy just staggered in,
he said "You're doomed," before he went back out,
It seems the printing chemicals were the reason for the blast,
Mr Sugden didn't have time to even shout!
Well the townsfolk, not surprisingly, were quick to figure out
that Old Roy was always spotted at the scene,
And being superstitious they were quick to pass the blame
and a mob was formed, their mood was cruel and mean,
Old Roy, it was decided, was a jinx upon the town
and he went from harmless drunk to hated foe,
It didn't take them long to vote for action to be made,
they decided there and then he had to go!
And so Old Roy was bundled up and put into a cart,
then they drove him many miles beyond the town,
All through the ride Old Roy just sat and never said a word,
his face serene as he just gazed around,
They pushed him roughly from the cart before they turned around
and in the dark, "You're doomed," they heard him cry,
Call it Fate or what you like, for later on that night
a meteorite came crashing from the sky!
No one knows about Old Roy, he disappeared from sight,
But legend says that God had sent him down
to warn the folk who turned on him that day so long ago,
before they were all buried with their town!
